Swazi Rugby Girls Visit UK

A group of 10 girls from Ethuthukeni Primary School in Mbabane visited the UK as part of the Touraid International Girls Rugby Festival in March 2014.

Their school is just one of over 550 schools in the Kingdom reached by the SKRUM programme (www.SKRUM.org) to deliver HIV/AIDs and Equality Education through classroom and rugby engagement.

Unlike many other projects, the SKRUM programme is delivered by young Swazis to challenge local perceptions and traditions.  Many of these girls will be involved in the SKRUM Youth Leadership programme on their return, impacting yet more lives.
They were hosted by Baylis Court School in Slough, Berkshire, staying with local families with girls of the same age.

Whilst in the UK, the girls have participated in a rugby tournament hosted at Allianz Park with the Saracens Foundation, spent a team building day at Surrey University with the Surrey Business School, spent at day at Freshfields Bruckhouse Deringer LLP on International Women's Day, participated in a Netball Tournament with the International Netball Trust at Surrey Sports Centre, visited the House of Commons and the Swaziland Embassy as well as joining in many other activities with their host families and schools.

Volunteer Vacations is proud to be associated with the SKRUM programme and sends volunteer rugby coaches out to Swaziland in order to assist the Swazi coaches in their work and help fund the programme.  For more enquiries contact Volunteer Vacations on info@volunteervacations.co.uk or take a look at their website http://www.volunteervacations.co.uk.
