US Ambassador to Swaziland, Lisa Peterson's courtesy call on SNLS Deputy Director

The new US Ambassador to Swaziland, Lisa Peterson, had a courtesy call with the Deputy Director of the Swaziland National Library Services (SNLS), Ms Jabu Hlophe, and the Librarian of UNISWA libraries, Ms Makana Mavuso, at the Mbabane Public Library.

The meeting served to familiarize the Ambassador with some of the Embassy’s longstanding local partners. In 2014, the SNLS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. Embassy which will see the two organizations working together for a further two years.

The two organizations have worked together since the year 2000 when the American Corner in the Nhlangano Public Library was established. In 2012, the American Corner in the Mbabane Public Library was established. The American Corner in Mbabane has been working on a Swazi initiative to provide Braille books for the visually impaired.

The Mbabane American Corner also has computer technology and other resources to allow visually impaired patrons to access online and digital information as well. These corners are a great resource for library users as they provide free access to internet, online databases, periodicals, and a collection of books on thematic areas such as entrepreneurship, health, governance, and the environment.
