After SA's Cassper Nyovest Filled The Dome in 2015, we've seen quite a few 'Fill Up' campaigns doing the rounds. In Swaziland, young man Illa Penboy is determined to Fill Up Mavuso tomorrow (Saturday 21 May, 2016).
A 7000 capacity centre, Illa Penboy and his fans have rolled the sleeves and vowed to make it happen. To mark this historic event, Illa Penboy released a track 'Umcimbi', which means Event. It can be downloaded here: https://www.datafilehost.com/d/a5b94861 so you can sing along tomorrow.
About Illa Penboy
Swazi born and raised artist, Illa Penboy refers to himself as a talented musician who practices the skill of rhyming in vernacular rap, SHHH VOOM RAP.
Asked what SHHH VOOM RAP is, he says it "encompasses various
elements from various musical backgrounds. It
involves street-talk and highly influential
messages in Siswati and English, yet largely
comprehended lingo". Mhmmm!
Illa Penboy brings a
different flavour and sound, not only to this type
of music but also to the Hip-Hop scene. One of
his objectives is to encourage and inspire an
international appeal into Swazi music.
Illa Penboy is not new to the music industry; in
2011 he formed a group with Mpendulo
Gamedze and Msizi called 'The Last Page' popular
known as TLP. TLP released one album, namely JUST IN TIME which won The Best
New Comer at the 2012 Tihlabani Awards.
Debut Album
The SHHH VOOM RAP originator has a new
album, Ekse Ntwana Konakele, the title of Illa
Penboy’s s first offering, which was released in
June 2015. In this album, he brings through a
distinctive sound and formula. "My concept is
about bringing back the show, the energy, creativity, turn up, sing along, hit after hit and
quality performance that is out of the ordinary," he says.
Collaborations
He adds that this project is already receiving a very positive
and overwhelming response and is already a
success with him working with some of
the hottest rappers in the game. He worked with
the likes of: KrTC, Qibho, Kangaroo, 80 Script
and Subjamz The Producer.
His two singles; Phola Mshana featuring 80
Script and Skorokoro featuring KrTC, Kangaroo and Qibho dominated air play last year and this year. Skorokoro managed to be
number 1 on Swazi Radio (SBIS) Top 20 for two weeks in a row.
He recently dropped two singles "Swazi Girls and Awumekancane " currently a hit on local radio and well received by local music fans.
