Swaziland Beverages has now revealed the top 60 finalists of their KickStart competition. In a press statement, corporate affairs officer, Thandwa Dlamini, said, “We are delighted to announce that our judges have selected the top 60 KickStart finalists, whose ideas proved to be the most innovative and sustainable. The finalists will now undergo intensive business training that will be held at Mananga Management Training for a period of two weeks.”
The 60 KickStart finalists will go through business training from the 9th to the 20th of May 2016. The training is largely intended to promote practical business management skills amongst the entrepreneurs and help them to develop sustainable enterprise development plans. Some of the courses to be covered include:
- Introduction to entrepreneurship
- Marketing Plan
- Strategic Planning
- Financial Management
- Human Resource Management
- Legal Issues
- Business Plan
- Business Growth Plan
- Operations Management
- Taxation
- Business and Social Media
- Presentation Skills
- Management systems certification and product certification service
KickStart is a competition aimed at nurturing Swazi youth entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 35 to run sustainable businesses. These entrepreneurs are offered business skills training, grants to start their businesses and a year’s mentorship to ensure business sustainability. Dlamini further stated, “We strongly believe that for an entrepreneur to succeed, they need to gain the correct knowledge and expertise. We have thus ensured that through our KickStart program, we offer a bouquet of services, including training, funding, and mentorship for our finalists and winners in order to grow their businesses and make an economic contribution.” KickStart has an annual government contribution of E2 million and has now become one of the most prominent entrepreneurship development projects undertaken by a private sector company in the Kingdom.
After this training, the finalists are expected to draw up their business plans and incorporate what they learned during their training. They will then present their business plans to the panel of judges. These business plans and presentations to the judges are what will ultimately determine the winners of KickStart 2016.
