SYNOPSIS: Under the guidance of acclaimed South African storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe, five orphaned children from eSwatini collaborate to craft an original fairytale drawn from their darkest memories and brightest dreams. Their fictional character, Liyana, is brought to life in innovative animated artwork as she embarks on a dangerous quest to rescue her young twin brothers. The children’s real and imagined worlds begin to converge, and they must choose what kind of story they will tell - in fiction and in their own lives. This inspiring tale of perseverance is a tribute to creativity, the strength of the human spirit, and the healing power storytelling.

Aaron was raised in eSwatini. He and Amanda worked on the film for more than 8 years, making this a very personal project. LIYANA features beautiful animation by Nigerian artist Shofela Coker. LIYANA was produced by Sakheni Dlamini. Much of the musical score was made in eSwatini featuring local musicians and vocalists, including Ncobile Mamba and Bashayi Bengoma. The film has been touring at international film festivals and received rave reviews. The team is excited to finally bring the film to a public audience in eSwatini.

Filmmaking team and lead subjects from the film will be attending the House on Fire premiere.
